In addition to tapes on following pages, our offer includes a number of other dimensions, the full list of which can be found in our Technical Approval. In addition, we are able to produce tapes with non-standard dimensions at the customer's request.
Design guidelines
1. Type
When selecting PVC-P sealing tapes, it should be taken into account whether tapes will have contact with bituminous compounds. The basic division of sealing tapes is following:
- PVC-P tapes not resistant to bituminous compounds and oils (NB),
- PVC-P-NBR tapes resistant to bituminous compounds and oils (BV) made according to the DIN standard (DIN18541).
2. Ciągłość
It should be remembered that the selected tapes should constitute a continuous mesh of seals in all construction and expansion joints.
This is ensured by:
- using the same width of tapes;
- ensuring the same anchor spacing;
- maintaining the right angle when changing levels;
- preventing deformation of the anchors during the assembly;
- pulling out min. of 40cm of the tape above the designed ground level;
- avoiding joining internal and external tapes on one object.
3. Covering
When designing the reinforcement, keep the covering in mind. For sealing tapes (according to DIN 18197), the spacing between the reinforcement must be ≥ 20 mm (details in the drawing below):
4. Bending radius
When unfolding the tapes through various shapes of elements, bending the anchors should be avoided. Permissible bending radii for:
- Internal tapes for construction joints, A type: r ≥ 150 mm;
- External tapes for construction joints, AA type: r ≥ 50 x f mm, (where f is the height of the anchor);
- Internal tapes for expansion joints, D type: r ≥ 250 mm;
- External tapes for expansion joints, DA type: r ≥ 50 x f mm, (where f is the height of the anchor);
- Closing tapes, FA type: r ≥ 30 x k mm,(where k - the strip width).
If the bending radius is not kept, appropriate passages must be made on the site by qualified fitters or appropriate fittings must be ordered from the manufacturer.
5. Displacement and height of the water column:
To ensure correct operation of the tape (transfer of shear and tensile movements) during construction and during use, all deformations in all directions must be taken into account using the strain vector:
After determining the displacement vector and having the pressure value of the water column, using diagrams, we can determine the width of the tape for the appropriate type:
* the above charts were drawn up on the basis of the German DIN V 18197 standard and they have an auxiliary function (no Polish standard regulating the scope of tapes application). Each time a designer chooses a tape, he should do it based on his knowledge and experience If in doubt, please contact our technical department.
Assembly guidelines
1. Preparation:
- Unroll the tapes on a flat surface to check if they are made correctly, and that they are not damaged or deformed;
- At lower temperatures, tapes may deform - in order to restore the tapes to their correct shape, unfold the tapes a day before laying them in a heated warehouse or heat the tape with a gas burner, remembering that the flame should not be too close and long to one place. It should be heated along the tape axis;
- It is very important that anchors are not deformed.
Assembly:
- Tapes should be installed in the axis so that the center is in the place of the construction joint or in the axis of the compensation channel of the tape for extension joints;
- Remember to keep the covering of min. 20 mm;
- During concreting, the tapes cannot change their position;
- The assembly should be carried out with the use of mounting brackets and binding wire, keeping the spacing every 25 cm;
- When compacting the mix, be careful not to damage tapes or fasteners.
FA closing tapes (fig. 1)
- Installation on the shuttering board with arms down, below the last anchor with staples or two-head nails to the length of 40 cm driven to a maximum of 1/3 of their height and bent;
- To protect the tape against mechanical damage, the possibility of using TFA protective profiles (the profile shapes the edges of concrete elements).
Internal tapes A i D (fig. 2)
- Installation on the shuttering board with arms down, below the last anchor with staples or two-head nails to the length of 40 cm driven to a maximum of 1/3 of their height and bent;
- To protect the tape against mechanical damage, the possibility of using TFA protective profiles (the profile shapes the edges of concrete elements).
A and D internal tapes (fig. 3)
- For the installation of internal tapes, it is necessary to make the stable split formwork;
- Tapes for expansion joints must be stably mounted in a double layer of fibreboards (the first layer is to be in the axis of the expansion channel, the second is to tightly close the tape arm;
- The tape should be mounted in a V-shape (at an angle of ~15° from the face of the plate) using tie binding wire for rebars;
- When concreting the second stage, it is important to remember to clean and repair any defects.
AA and DA external tapes (fig. 4)
- Make the formwork so that it does not rest on anchors of the tape spread over lean concrete or compacted soil;
- It is recommended to use the Recomax system formwork;
- After concreting the first stage, the unsecured arm of the tape should be protected against damage;
- The tapes are fastened to the vertical formwork with two-head nails to the length of 40 cm driven to a maximum of 1/3 of their height and bent;
- The tape may only be punctured at the boundary of the last anchor and the edge of the tape. The rest of the tape must not be damaged.
- When concreting the second stage, it is important to remember to clean and repair any defects.
Welding tapes (fig. 5)
- The connection of PVC-P tapes is based on heat sealing. Axes are used to connect tapes. Joining takes place depending on the material from 160 °C to 220 °C. In the case of complicated shapes, it is recommended to make the welds in a prefabrication factory.
- Before joining the tapes, pay attention to the proper preparation of the welded surface. Tapes at ends should be smooth and cut off with a single knife movement at the right angle, keeping the appropriate shape and dimensions;
- Tapes are melted at ends and joined together;
- In the next stage, the weld is processed or masking tape is applied.
